What Does It Take to Win the Game?

Shoot! Shoot!

The crowd is going wild!

Only 2 seconds left and there you stand with the ball. The opposing guard lunges toward you in a desparate effort to stop you. If you make the shot, the championship is over and you've won.

You focus on the things coach has had you practice hundreds of times. This is your chance to make all your work pay off. Faking to the left, you dodge the guard and shoot.

As the ball arches toward the basket, tension builds. Suddenly, the entire gym is silent. The crowd is breathless. The buzzer goes off!

The ball hits the rim and rolls around it. Panic stricken, you wait for it to fall out. It doesn't. It fell in! You won the championship. You just scored the winning basket.

The crowd goes nuts! You feel like you're going to collapse with relief and your team mates are thronging you.

That basket started three years ago, when coach convinced you to join the team and let him teach you how to play better.

You'd played a lot of street ball, and could shoot pretty well, but some guys just always seemed top know how to beat you every time. You could never seem to win on a regular basis.

Coach started by focusing on dribbling, shooting and passing. Drills made the moves instinctive. Practice established proper shooting and passing skills. Strategy sessions developed plans of attack to defeat other teams.

At first, it was really discouraging, but as time went on, you began to see increasing successes. This is the culmination of the program. The State Championship.

Many of us started an internet business by buying a domain name, getting hosting, and obtaining some kind of website that is 'guaranteed' to produce sales. The only problem is, it doesn't.

In fact, no one even visits the site, and when you try to go to see what it looks like, you can't even bring it up. How is it going to make sales if the potential customers can't get there?

You start by getting ebooks about making your business go. Unfortunately, hundreds of other site owners bombard you with so many offers that you are throughly confused by the conflictiung advice. Your efforts seem fruitless.

Hundreds, or even thousands of dollars are spent trying to find an easy way of making money.

At this point, many people give up their dream and walk away, convinced that the promises are false. Theyve been convinced that "Opportunity knocks but
once", and they missed it.

The truth is that opportunities knock almost every day. Don't waste the time worrying about the one you missed. Prepare to grab another one.

Like the basketball player, success is going to depend on learning certain basic skills in order to score. Rarely will a disorganized or unpractised effort produce any results. Even when it works, it usually cannot be repeated.

A carefully practiced and planned approach, on the other hand, can be repeated. It can be modified to improve results, once the basic and working plan of approach is developed.

A coach who has had some success can analyze what made his efforts successful. He can then show you what produced his successes. Those elements can then be adjusted to find even more success. The hardest part is establishing that first successful plan.

As the plan is improved, a Coach can then make suggestions to implement the plan more effectively. Keeping track of everything, whether in basketball or in business is very difficult for a novice.

The coach, even one who is only marginally successful, will greatly improve the probability of success for the beginner. A better coach will give advantage even to experienced people. It is interesting that the top professional teams hire the very best coaches, even though it seems that they need a coach least.

The right coaching will always produce more than it costs, and is well worth the investment. It may make the difference between losing everything or scoring a championship. If you are not making what you think you need, get a good coach. You'll be glad you did.
